Wai Garden (蕙園) is an outdoor learning field situated in Ping Shan Ha Tsuen, adjacent to Tin Shui Wai New Town and covers an area of about 18,000 square feet. It was formerly Ha Tsuen Wai Tsuen Kindergarten (廈村蕙荃幼稚園), a village kindergarten with indoor and outdoor grounds operated by the School Sponsoring Body St. Matthias’ Church. Because of the rapid development of the new towns in Tin Shui Wai in mid 1990s, fewer and fewer students enrolled in the kindergarten.  In view of this, in 1996, the School Sponsoring Body decided to suspend its operation.

To make good use of the natural environment of Wai Garden with its fresh air and vast open space, we applied to the School Sponsoring Body to open up Wai Garden as an outdoor learning area for our students. In this way, the School would have more space to conduct learning activities and students would have more opportunities to get in touch with nature, experience farming and gardening, carry out scientific experiments, draw and sketch, ride bicycles, barbecue etc.  Besides, the enclosed areas in Wai Garden could be converted into storage space to store teaching materials and various resources.
